Company History
In the winter of 1987, two renowned skiers, an American
world speed skiing champion Steve Mc Kinney, the first man ever
to pass the 200
kilometers/hour barrier on a pair of skies and Chilean Joaquín
Oyarzún, Ibero-American speed skiing champion, founded the
first private sports company dedicated to promoting the "kilometro
lanzado" and new, talented skiers. Thus, KL Chile was born.
The company's early efforts soon gave good results with the new record
by Cristian Anguita, clocked at over 200 k/h, and later his 13th
place ranking at the 1992 Winter Olympics at Albertville, France.
In the early 1990s, KL Chile became active in promoting mega events
around the world, such as the Paris-Dakar Rally, the Pharons Rally,
Tour de France, World Mountain Bike Championship, and the Winter
Olympics at Albertville, Lillehammer and Nagano, Japan ensuring their
broadcast on Chile's major television stations and coverage in the
leading news media (Chilevisión, TVN, Megavisión, La
Red, and El Mercurio).
In 1994, KL Chile created KL Chile Inmobiliaria to handle an array
of real estate-related mountain services from rental management of
shelters and apartments to complex maintenance and remodeling of
mountain facilities.
Since 1996, KL Adventure has been promoting locations for ski, Heliski,
Snowboard, and Helisurf sports around the world, from the Canadian
and U.S. Rocky Mountains, to the Chilean Andes, European Alps, the
Caucasus in the former USSR, the Asian Himalayas, as well as sport
events in Australia and New Zealand.
The recent trekking activities and climbs during the 1998 summer
season in the southern hemisphere, organized in conjunction with
German and Austrian organizations, have successfully positioned KL
Adventure as an expert in mountain expeditions, trekking, and horseback
adventures in the Atacama Desert, Central Andes, Chilean-Argentine
Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, and Easter Island.
Beginning in 1997, KL Adventure has offered a number of ski-related
services to foreign and domestic visitors, world-class skiers, sports
clubs, and local corporations. KL Chile's unique "all included" formula
for ski rental, transport to mountain resorts, lodging, guided ski
tour, etc. makes the company the ideal partner for expert and novice
skiers alike. KL Adventure is located at the Unimarc Supermarket
at Cantagallo, the gateway to Latin America's major ski resorts:
The Three Valleys of the Andes.
